Position Overview
Join our innovative product development team as an Industrial Design & Product Styling Intern, where you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our product portfolio. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the entire design lifecycle, from initial ideation to final concept visualization. You will work alongside senior designers and cross-functional teams to translate user needs and brand values into tangible, aesthetically compelling, and ergonomically sound products. This role is ideal for a creative and passionate individual looking to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges and build a strong foundation in professional industrial design.
Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas for new products and features.
- Develop and communicate design concepts through high-quality sketches, illustrations, and storyboards.
- Build detailed and accurate 3D models for product concepts and design iterations using Blender and other CAD software.
- Create photorealistic 3D renderings and visualizations for design reviews, presentations, and marketing materials.
- Assist in the creation of physical mockups and prototypes to evaluate form, ergonomics, and usability.
- Apply principles of ergonomic design to ensure products are comfortable, intuitive, and user-friendly.
- Support the senior design team in conducting user research and usability testing to validate design concepts.
- Explore and document Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) options that align with product styling and brand identity.
- Collaborate with engineers to understand technical constraints and ensure design feasibility.
- Refine product styling and form details based on constructive feedback from team leads.
- Prepare and maintain design documentation and specification sheets for development handoff.
- Conduct competitive analysis and research on industry trends to inform design strategy.
- Assist in preparing compelling presentations to communicate design intent to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- A strong portfolio showcasing your design process, including sketching, ideation, 3D modeling, rendering, and prototyping.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering using Blender; experience with SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, or Keyshot is a significant plus.
- Excellent 2D visualization and sketching skills, both traditional and digital (e.g., using Adobe Photoshop or Procreate).
- Solid understanding of core industrial design principles, including form, proportion, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
- Foundational knowledge of ergonomics, human factors, and user-centered design methodologies.
- Familiarity with various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining) and materials.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for presentations and graphic work.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale.
- A proactive, self-motivated learner with a keen eye for detail and a passion for product innovation.
