About Sungov Engineering
Sungov Engineering is a Chennai-based engineering design and manufacturing company with nearly four decades of presence across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power, and Environmental sectors. We design and manufacture engineered-to-order equipment including strainers, filter separators, coalescers, pressure vessels, Quick Opening Closures (QOCs), heat exchangers, and skid-mounted packaged systems. Backed by ASME U Stamp, US National Board, CRN, IBR, and ISO certifications, we serve clients across India and internationally.
*We are at a deliberate growth inflection strengthening our engineering depth, expanding into higher-value, lower-volume safety and asset protection products, and building a product development capability that goes beyond execution. This hire is central to that ambition.*
Why This Role Exists
Our engineering team executes well. What we are now building is independent design capability engineers who can think through a product from first principles, not just interpret a customer specification and produce drawings.
Alongside our established filtration and separation equipment range, we are developing a new generation of safety-critical and asset protection products devices where engineering integrity, reliability in service, and compliance certification matter more than unit price. We need an engineer who is excited by that kind of problem.
This role is a blend: you will carry your share of regular engineering execution on our order book, and you will also drive new product development alongside senior engineering leadership. Over time, as new product lines mature, the development work will grow.
Roles & Responsibilities
*Engineering Execution (Core)*
- Handle design and engineering activities for static and process equipment during bid and project execution stages pressure vessels, filter separators, coalescers, strainers, QOCs, and related equipment
- Interpret customer specifications including Material Requisitions, Equipment Datasheets, Pressure Vessel Design Basis, Painting Specifications, and End User Standards
- Generate and review General Assembly Drawings, Fabrication Drawings, Material Take-Off Lists, and Technical Delivery Conditions
- Identify deviations from customer specifications; raise and resolve Technical Queries with clients and consultants
- Ensure compliance with ASME QC Manual requirements; support ASME audits as required
- Evaluate vendor technical submittals for bought-out components; coordinate with procurement on technical matters
- Support proposal engineering team with sizing, technical write-ups, and deviation identification during bid preparation
*Product Development & R&D*
- Work with senior engineering leadership to evaluate, develop, and prototype new product concepts in the safety and asset protection space including but not limited to valve interlocks, mechanical seals, and related devices
- Apply first-principles mechanical engineering thinking – mechanism design, sealing interfaces, material selection, fatigue and wear considerations – to develop products that are reliable in service and manufacturable at Sungov
- Develop standard design configurations for existing product lines (QOCs, strainers) to improve proposal speed, reduce engineering rework, and improve manufacturing consistency
- Support prototype build and testing cycles; incorporate field and manufacturing feedback into design iterations
- Research applicable codes, standards, and certification requirements for new product categories; develop a compliance roadmap in coordination with QA/QC
- Document design methodologies, engineering decisions, and lessons learned to build institutional knowledge within the engineering team
*Team Contribution*
- Guide and review the work of junior engineers and draughtsmen
- Contribute to improving engineering workflows and reducing cycle time through standardization and reusable design outputs
Desired Candidate Profile
*What We Are Looking For*
You are a mechanical engineer who understands how things work – not just how they are calculated. You are comfortable with pressure equipment codes and familiar with design software, but your real strength is engineering judgement: material selection, interface design, failure mode thinking, and knowing when a design will hold up in the field and when it won't.
You have spent your career in a manufacturing environment – ideally at a company that makes engineered devices or equipment, not at an EPC or consultancy. You know what it means to take a product from concept to drawing release to production, and you've seen the gaps that emerge when engineering and shop floor don't speak the same language.
You are curious about new problems. The idea of figuring out how to design and certify a product category that Sungov doesn't yet make is interesting to you, not intimidating.
*Non-Negotiable*
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
- 8–14 years of experience in a manufacturing environment – equipment or device manufacturer, not EPC or consultancy
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals: stress analysis, material selection, mechanism design, tolerancing, sealing systems
- Working knowledge of ASME Sec VIII and/or relevant pressure equipment codes – able to interpret and apply, not necessarily calculate independently
- Strong exposure to ASTM/EN/JIS material standards including carbon steel, LTCS, stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel
- Experience working with end user or consultant specifications from oil & gas or process industry clients
- Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modelling software (SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor preferred)
*Strong Advantage*
- Experience designing mechanical devices with moving parts, sealing interfaces, or functional safety requirements – valves, interlocks, seals, actuators, or similar
- Exposure to functional safety or asset integrity concepts – fail-safe design logic, SIL awareness, or similar
- Experience taking a product from concept or prototype through to certified production
- Exposure to ASME U Stamp manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with sour service requirements (NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156)
- Experience with FEA tools for non-standard design validation
