We are looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to help set the technical vision for the products they own. The leader is expected to guide the SDEs through solving ambiguous and complex problems in post purchase properties. They understand the complexity of stores systems and be able to collaborate with other stakeholders and away teams in order to deliver phenomenal CX for our end customers.

We are looking for someone who has an established background delivering highly distributed systems at scale, design patterns like SDKs, libraries, versioning, and a strong operational track record while working with multiple teams.

As an SDM, this role provides you with autonomy and ownership to solve difficult problems, working backwards from client and customer impact problems such as resource isolation in distributed systems.

Key job responsibilities

• Building, leading and developing a high performing team which owns a set of services end-to-end, from design to maintenance
• Working closely with internal customers
• Defining the strategy and product/technical roadmap
• Managing the operations of your systems and representing your team in large programs with cross-organizational impact
• Providing on-call engineering support on a rotation every ~1-2 months
• Drive roadmap planning and goals prioritization through effective leadership mechanisms.

You will need to Think Big for continuous planning and use mechanisms that scale to meet the broad and diverse needs of teams across Amazon. You'll employ customer obsession serving customers' needs , continually improving experiences and productivity.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
